How to activate ‘Find my Mobile’ on your Samsung Galaxy Note 3/10.1

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3/10.1 is one of those devices that is far too portable to remain in your living room, it aches to be taken out and about. The problem with taking your gadgets outside of your bubble is that you open them up to security issues, not least of all the chance that someone may simply steal it from you.

If this is a worry, or you just want some added peace of mind, the Galaxy Note 3/10.1 (mine is a Note 3 with Android 4.2.2 installed) has a feature called ‘Find my Mobile', which will send location data to a nominated mobile number as soon as someone attempts to put a new SIM into the device, allowing you to provide police with accurate data to help you get your device back. Here's how to get started:

(Before you start, you'll need to make sure you have a Samsung account set up and have the login details handy)

Choose your apps list on the Samsung Galaxy 3/Note 10.1
Select ‘Settings'
Hit ‘Security'
Go to ‘SIM Change Alert'
Select ‘Sign In'
Here, you'll have the option to create an account if you need to, or simply sign in with your details if you already have an account
Drag the slide bar next to ‘Save'
Tap ‘Alert Message'
Enter the text for the message that you want to be sent to the recipient in the event that ‘Find my Mobile' should activate
Tap ‘OK'
Add a phone number either by keying it in manually or choosing from your contacts list
Hit ‘Save'
